Pantanjali, often known as the “father of yoga”, described Yoga as an eightfold path providing an all-encompassing approach to wholeness from the inside out. Each of these paths is like the intertwining limb of a tree. In this three hour workshop, we will explore each of the limbs of the eightfold path with discussion and practice.
The first limb is Yama, ethical principles defined by Pantanjali. The second limb is Niyama, purifying ourselves with personal discipline, and the third is Asana, where awareness is enhanced through yoga postures. The fourth limb is Pranayama, or breathing techniques.
The next three limbs focus upon inner awareness. We will discuss and practice the limbs of Concentration, Contemplation, and Meditation. The ultimate goal of practicing Yoga is Samadhi, or self-realization, which is the final limb.
In this workshop you will better understand Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, one of the foundational texts of Yoga, and how it applies to us. We will explore how our past is dictating the choices we make and the experiences we create today.
Ann Waring has been teaching yoga for 12 years and is a student and teacher of metaphysics for 20 years.
